My Little Mushroom

My friend Lindsay let us borrow this little chair for Marek. It's supposed to help them sit up on their own and strengthen their tummy muscles and back muscles. Each time I put him in this little chair I think he looks like a little mushroom! He's so cute! Check out this little video...

(he's currently in his oral stage...)

Oh, and OF COURSE he's watching soccer!

Yummy Foot!

First foot chomping experience...
and yes, his shirt says: "Bad to the Bone"

A Year Ago Today...

I took a pregnancy test (digital of course) and found out our little zoo was gaining another member. At the time I freaked out. I couldn't even look at the test. I made Matt look first. When he said it was positive...I had no idea what I should do. (Yes, I was one of those people who called a friend who was also preggers and literally said, "uh...what do I do?")

Fast forward to present. Marek is 4 months old and growing like a weed. I look back on that day when I freaked out about being a mom, and laugh. I wouldn't trade life before 01/11/09 for anything!

Pictured: Marek pulling my hair and LOVING it!

CHOC ER Night

Yes, I'm a sick, twisted person who did take a pic of her son in the Children's Hospital Emergency Room. In one way it is a milestone in that it's his first visit to the ER (I hope his last but we all know little boys enjoy freaking their Mommy's out by making SEVERAL trips to the ER) and in another way it's the scariest thing I've ever been to. This visit tops giving birth and my dad's heart attack in terms of scariest because its my son in a position in which I'm completely and utterly helpless. I HATE that feeling. All i can do is hold him while they poke and prod every part of his little body to find out what's wrong. Its almost like taking the dogs to the vet. You know they are hurting but they can't tell you where so the docs run every test imaginable.

Timeline of events:
Saturday 5:30pm - Matt notices his (Marek's) head burning up
Saturday 6:30pm - Call on-call doctor. They prescribe Tylenol and then check to see if temp goes down
Saturday 7:45pm - Leave for Urgent Care. His fever didn't respond to Tylenol and is now at 103+.
Saturday 9:00pm - Head to CHOC ER. Urgent Care couldn't run all the tests and CHOC ER is the best for kids in Orange County.
Sunday 2:30am - Leave ER armed with Tamiflu. Doctors think it might be early Flu but aren't sure.
Sunday 11:00am - Go see our regular doctor. They run blood and nose swab. Negative for Flu, but his white blood cell count is at 24! (normal is between 5-10) So he's definitely fighting something.
Monday 11:40am - Back to doctor for round two of blood test. He's now at 9.7 count. So he is apparently almost done fighting whatever this virus is. We shall see if he needs further care...

(As this post went to print, Marek is fine and resting comfortably at home with his parents)

Roll Over

Marek rolled over for the first time! Front to back! Here is a pic we got right after he did it. He was so excited! Its been so much fun to see all of his little milestones so far, but bittersweet too because it means he's growing up! I need to make sure I'm here for all of them because they'll never come again...
